Artificial intelligence can already create videos that are hard to distinguish from real ones

(Patria) - Photographs and videos created by artificial intelligence (AI) could soon look much more realistic.

The company OpenAI, which also stands behind ChatGPT, presented to the world yesterday a new tool called Sora, which can generate incredibly realistic videos based on queries, i.e., commands (prompts) entered by the user.

It is important to recall that generative artificial intelligence, the only kind that exists today, without guidance from humans and the data they feed it, is completely incapable of any autonomous tasks. It is a valuable tool, but still – just a tool.

The videos created by Sora can be up to one minute long and consist of "complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and precise details," the company announced.

In addition to text, it can also generate videos from photographs and "extend" existing videos, elaborated the California-based company OpenAI.

The product is initially available only to so-called "red teams" (company experts tasked with combating disinformation, hate speech, and what the company calls "bias") who are already working with OpenAI to improve product safety.

A certain number of visual artists, designers, and filmmakers are also working on the program so that the company can obtain information on which Sora will be based.

OpenAI yesterday already shared several examples demonstrating the power of the new artificial intelligence model.

Thus, we can see a video of a woman on a Tokyo street bathed in neon lighting, mammoths galloping through snow, a cartoon monster curiously kneeling before a melting candle, a reproduction of the American Wild West...

It is believed that the described AI model could primarily impact the digital entertainment markets.

The company also acknowledged the current weaknesses of the newly created tool, including malfunction when "simulating complex action scenes" and a lack of understanding of "cause and effect" – e.g., a cookie that remains whole after someone has bitten into it.
