Ukrainian Ministry of Defense: Russians have lost 442,000 personnel, 7,000 tanks, and 15,000 vehicles and fuel tankers so far

(Patria) - Russian losses in Ukraine continue to mount, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced.

According to data updated yesterday, since the beginning of the war, Russians have lost 442,170 people, and in the last 24 hours alone, that number is 650, reports Newsweek.

Moscow's forces lost 15 tanks in the previous 24 hours, Ukraine also announced on Sunday.

According to the Kyiv army, Russia has now lost almost 7,000 tanks and close to 15,000 vehicles and fuel tankers, used to maintain armored vehicles.

Newsweek could not independently verify Ukraine's data, and war losses are difficult to determine.

Neither Russia nor Ukraine typically discloses details about their own casualty numbers, nor how much military equipment they have lost.

Experts suggest that Moscow and Kyiv inflate the losses of their opponents while downplaying their own.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that Ukraine has lost 15,650 tanks and other armored combat vehicles since February 2022, but did not provide specific data on Kyiv's total losses or how many fuel tankers it lost.

The British government estimated at the beginning of March that Russia had likely suffered more than 335,000 casualties since February 2022.

"This almost certainly reflects Russia's commitment to mass and attritional warfare," the UK Ministry of Defense stated.

Approximately 31,000 soldiers have died fighting for Ukraine against Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the end of February.

Russian Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the end of 2023 that Kyiv had suffered 383,000 casualties since February 2022, according to domestic state media reports.

Despite caution regarding details, losses are significant on both sides. Kyiv has warned that Moscow is likely to launch a new offensive in late May or during the summer and is gathering new troops for this effort.

Future aid from the US – Ukraine's largest source of military assistance – still hangs in the balance. A new $60 billion package has been pending in Congress for months.

"If there is no US support, it means we don't have air defense, we don't have Patriot missiles, we don't have electronic warfare jammers, we don't have 155-millimeter artillery shells," Zelensky recently told The Washington Post.
