(Patria) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that in talks in Washington, she is focusing on Russian attacks on her country's energy grid ahead of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit later this week, Reuters reported.
"At every meeting in Washington, we raise the issue of defending Ukraine's energy and supporting our resilience during the winter and how to defend it," Svyrydenko wrote on Telegram.
She described the priorities of her visit as "energy, sanctions, and developing cooperation with the US in new ways that can strengthen both our countries".
Zelenskyy is meeting with US President Donald Trump on Friday to discuss Ukraine's air defense and long-range capabilities. They spoke twice last weekend amid intensifying discussions about the potential delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent "reaffirmed the United States' unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and emphasized the United States' commitment to ensuring lasting peace" during talks with Svyrydenko, according to a statement from the US Treasury Department.
He also thanked his guest for supporting the American-Ukrainian Recovery Investment Fund, in the establishment of which the Ukrainian Prime Minister participated earlier this year.
Ukraine and the United States held the first meeting of the board of the investment fund in September, established as part of an agreement giving Washington preferential access to Ukrainian minerals in exchange for investments.
The Prime Minister is accompanied on her visit by the Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, and a team of officials from the government, central bank, and other bodies.
