(Patria) - The Ukrainian General Staff announced that Russian forces suffered significant aviation losses in recent drone attacks - a total of 41 military aircraft, including long-range strategic bombers.
The figure is based on subsequent analysis and verification of data from multiple sources, according to a statement released yesterday.
The attacks were carried out over the weekend on several air bases across Russia, including locations deep in Siberia, and the Ukrainian security service SBU claims that drones transported hundreds of kilometers through Russian territory were used in the operation.
The targets were Tu-95, Tu-160 and Tu-22M3 bombers, which Russia regularly uses to launch cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.
Moscow has so far acknowledged damage to "several aircraft," while pro-Russian sources have cited figures between 10 and 13 hit aircraft.
However, if the Ukrainian figures prove accurate, it would be the most powerful strike on Russian strategic aviation since the start of the war.
Russia, it should be recalled, yesterday set a new condition for the continuation of negotiations, including a demand that Ukraine cease attacks on military air bases.
