(Patria) - The Ukrainian Border Guard announced today that it has prevented about 49,000 conscripts from fleeing the country since Russia attacked it more than three years ago.
- About 45,000 of them were detained directly at the so-called green border, at an unofficial crossing, or during checks in border areas - said the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko.
The remaining men were stopped at border crossings.
A total of almost 900 groups organized by smugglers were uncovered.
According to Demchenko, those who want to flee pay from 4,500 euros to almost 11,000 euros for help in leaving the country.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, a state of martial law has been in effect in the country, and a mobilization order has been issued.
Men of conscription age between 18 and 60 can leave the country only with permission from the local defense office.
Despite this, more than 800,000 Ukrainian men of conscription age have received protection status in EU member states after leaving Ukraine.
