Ukraine launched drones at Moscow, two airports closed

(Patria) - Ukraine early this morning launched at least 25 drones targeting Moscow, the largest Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian capital so far. Due to the attack, two airports in Moscow were temporarily closed.

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 12 drones were destroyed in the Ramenskoye and Kolomenskoye districts of the Moscow region, as well as in the city of Domodedovo, southwest of Moscow.

The Moscow region has a population of over 21 million.

"According to preliminary information, there is no damage or casualties at the site of the debris fall," Sobyanin said on the Telegram messaging app.

"Emergency services are at the scene," he added.

The Ramenskoye district, 45 km southeast of the Kremlin, was last targeted in what was then the largest Ukrainian attack on the Russian capital in September, when Russian air defense destroyed 20 drones.

Rosaviatsia, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, said on Telegram that "temporary restrictions on the operation of Domodedovo and Zhukovo airports have been introduced for the safety of civilian aircraft flights."

Ukrainian drones set fire to several non-residential buildings overnight in Russia's Kaluga and Bryansk regions, regional governors said on Sunday. The Defense Ministry said that air defense units destroyed 23 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 17 over Bryansk.

However, footage on social media suggests fires are burning in multiple locations, with some fires being quite large.

Vladislav Shapsha, governor of the Kaluga region, which borders the Moscow region to the northeast, said that one non-residential building in the region was burning as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack.

Kyiv says its drone strikes on Russian territory target infrastructure crucial to Moscow's war effort and are a response to Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukrainian territory.
