Ukraine and Russia conduct new prisoner exchange, Ukrainian held for over 4,000 days freed

(Patria) - Ukraine and Russia have conducted another prisoner exchange, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed today.

One of the exchanged Ukrainians spent more than 4,000 days in captivity.

"New exchange, 84 people. Soldiers and civilians are included," Zelenskyy wrote on social media.

He thanked the United Arab Emirates for their help in organizing the exchange.

The Ukrainian Staff for Prisoner of War Affairs stated that this is the 67th exchange since the beginning of the war.

It occurred the day before US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet in the US state of Alaska.

Kyiv said that 33 Ukrainian soldiers and 51 civilians were returned. The exchange took place on the border with Belarus.

Some of the prisoners had been held in the Moscow-controlled separatist regions of eastern Ukraine between 2014 and 2022, including three women from the Donetsk and Luhansk areas.

Kyiv said one man had been held for more than 4,000 days since 2014.

Russia confirmed the handover. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the return of 84 Russian prisoners of war.

However, it stated that 84 Ukrainian soldiers were handed over and did not mention any civilians.
