Verdict for Crime in Stolac Overturned

The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has overturned the verdict of the Cantonal Court in Mostar, which sentenced Vlatko Jarak to a year and a half in prison for a crime committed in 1993 in Stolac.

Jarak's verdict was overturned and it was ordered that the retrial be conducted before the Supreme Court.

The Cantonal Court in Mostar sentenced Jarak to a year and six months in prison on May 29 last year for a crime committed against the civilian population.

Jarak was found guilty of, as a member of the First Brigade "Knez Domagoj" of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), participating in the unlawful detention and forced displacement of the Bosniak population from Stolac.

This is the second time the Supreme Court has overturned Jarak's verdict. The Cantonal Court sentenced Jarak to one year in prison in 2012, but the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina overturned that verdict and ordered a retrial, BIRN reported, as carried by Patria.
