Detention lifted for Marko Šljivić, who caused the death of three people in a traffic accident; is he planning an escape to Croatia?

(Patria) - Deciding on the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in the case of Marko Šljivić, the Cantonal Court in Mostar on June 27, 2025, issued a decision rejecting the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to extend the detention of the suspect Marko Šljivić.

Šljivić's detention has been lifted, and measures have been imposed including the temporary revocation of his B-category driver's license, along with an order for the suspect Marko Šljivić to report to the Čapljina Police Station every Monday of the month by 10:00 AM.
These restrictive measures will remain in place as long as necessary, but no longer than until the verdict becomes final if the suspect is not sentenced to prison, and no later than his referral to serve a prison sentence if one is imposed, pursuant to Article 140.b of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The suspect is charged with committing the criminal offense of serious crimes against public traffic safety under Article 336, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the same article, and in connection with the criminal offense of endangering public traffic under Article 332, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Cantonal Court in Mostar announced.

His father is Pavo Šljivić, who in 2015 was the head of the cabinet of the then President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Marinko Čavara, a member of the Committee for Veterans and Associations from the Homeland War of the Croatian Defence Council of Herzeg-Bosnia, the Presidency of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is also known as the coordinator of commemorations of crimes against Croats in the Kakanj municipality.

The question now is whether and for how long Šljivić will remain available to the prosecuting authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, or whether he will, like many others, flee to Croatia, given that his documents and passports have not been confiscated.

We remind you that in the serious traffic accident that occurred on the Žitomislići - Počitelj road, three people lost their lives: two members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Enis Kurtović and Almin Crnalić, and a young woman, Dalila Žugor.
