(Patria) - Great Britain marked one year since the invasion of Ukraine by issuing new sanctions against Russia, including a ban on the export of any goods it has used on the battlefield and a ban on the import of iron and steel products, Reuters reported.
The UK has frozen the assets of Russian officials and companies over the past year in an effort to cripple Moscow's economy and curb its ability to wage war against its neighbour.
It was said that it would target another 92 individuals and entities, including allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, such as the head of Nord Stream 2, Matthias Warnig.
"Today we are sanctioning the elites who run Putin's key industries and committing to banning the export to Russia of any item found to have been used by Russia on the battlefield," said Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
Other executives to be targeted include those in the state-owned nuclear company Rosatom and others working in defence groups and Russian banks.
"Rosatom has always, under all circumstances, respected its international obligations," the statement said.
"We will continue to fulfil all existing contracts as long as it is possible."
It will also ban the import of 140 goods, including iron and steel products processed in third countries.
"Trade sanctions are working. Imports of goods from the UK by Russia have fallen by 99% since before the invasion, and exports of goods to Russia have fallen by almost 80%," said Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch.
