United Kingdom, Canada and Australia Recognise Palestine

(Patria) - The United Kingdom, Australia and Canada today officially recognised the State of Palestine, world agencies reported.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the official recognition of the State of Palestine, which the United Kingdom recognised in order to "rekindle hope for peace and a two-state solution" between Israelis and Palestinians.

"Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine," Starmer said in a video statement posted on social media.

At the same time, Australia and Canada also announced they had officially recognised Palestine.

"Australia formally recognises the state of Palestine. Today's Australian recognition of Palestine, which comes together with Canada and the United Kingdom, is part of international efforts towards a two-state solution," the Australian government stated.

Its statement emphasised that Hamas must have no role in Palestine.

Canada officially recognises the State of Palestine, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also announced in a Sunday statement, saying he wanted to "preserve the possibility of a two-state solution."

"Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers to work in partnership to realise the promise of a peaceful future for the State of Palestine and the State of Israel. Canada sees this measure as part of a coordinated international effort to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution," Carney stated.
