United Kingdom and Singapore sign economic and security agreements

(Patria) - The British government has signed a partnership with Singapore to develop its economy and improve joint security, Downing Street announced on Friday, adding that it is London's first agreement since leaving the European Union, Reuters reported.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will meet with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong at the G20 summit in India to sign the partnership and work towards concluding a bilateral investment treaty, Downing Street said.

They said the partnership would give Singaporean companies more confidence to invest in the United Kingdom and vice versa, while also creating new jobs.

The government in London added that the partnership would strengthen security cooperation, science and technological innovation, and research and development, including combating cyber threats, through a partnership between Singapore's Digital and Intelligence Service and the United Kingdom.

"This new agreement with Singapore will take us even further in delivering our priorities and ensuring that as we map out the future of the global economy, we do so alongside our closest partners," said Rishi Sunak.

The leaders are in New Delhi to attend the G20 summit this weekend. This is Sunak's first official trip to India since taking office last October.
