Several persons arrested for drug smuggling in Brčko District

As part of an operation that began in the early morning hours, several persons have been arrested, and searches are being conducted at multiple locations in the Brčko District and Tuzla Canton, announced the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Patria agency.

By order of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, dozens of police officers from SIPA and the Brčko District BiH police have been in the field since the early morning hours, conducting searches and depriving of liberty individuals suspected of the criminal offenses of organized crime under Article 250 and unauthorized trafficking in narcotic drugs under Article 195 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

A prosecutor and an investigator from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption are on the ground, coordinating the work and activities of police officers in the field.

The targets of the operation are suspects from the Brčko District BiH area, who are under investigation for having, as an organized criminal group, smuggled and further distributed and sold larger quantities of narcotic drugs in the territory of BiH, including heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.

According to collected evidence, the narcotic drugs were smuggled into the territory of BiH, i.e., the Brčko District, mainly from the territory of the Republic of Serbia, and the suspects were participants in the further smuggling and drug-dealing network towards BiH and abroad.

After the searches and deprivations of liberty are carried out, the suspects will be handed over to the prosecutor in charge, who will question them and then make a decision on further activities regarding proposals for detention or prohibition measures.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, together with partner police and security agencies in BiH and neighboring countries, participates in activities in the fight against international drug smuggling.
