Five BiH Border Police officers arrested for corruption

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Police officers of the Central Investigation Office of the Border Police of BiH, together with police officers of JPK TU East, under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, and according to the orders of the Court of BiH, on 06.03.2020, carried out activities to prevent, detect, and prove illegal, corrupt actions committed by police officers of PGP Brod, at the Brod International Border Crossing, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that the criminal offense of "Receiving a bribe and other forms of benefit" under Article 217 of the Criminal Code of BiH has been committed.

"During the mentioned activities, during which certain corrupt acts were documented, five suspected police officers of the Border Police of BiH, assigned to PGP Brod, were deprived of their liberty. In addition to searching the suspected police officers of the Border Police of BiH, official premises at the Brod International Border Crossing, used by the suspected police officers, are also being searched. During the search, a certain amount of money was found, which is suspected to originate from the commission of the criminal offense," the GP BiH announced.

Zoran Galić, director of the GP BiH, stated that the mentioned activities represent a clear commitment of the Border Police of BiH, led by its management, to oppose all forms of corrupt behavior by police officers of the Border Police of BiH.

"Therefore, we invite and encourage all citizens and passengers to report any form of corrupt behavior they notice or have useful knowledge about," Galić emphasized.

Due to the implementation of the mentioned activities, traffic at the Brod International Border Crossing was blocked for a certain period, for which the GP BiH apologizes to passengers who found themselves at the mentioned border crossing at that moment.
