Police in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg, in cooperation with their Serbian colleagues, have shed light on criminal acts committed by a gang from Serbia involved in burglaries of shops and apartments in that part of Austria, as well as in the German city of Lindau, reports the Patria News Agency.
These are burglaries that occurred in 2013, with a total estimated damage of 340,000 euros, or 56,000 euros in Germany.
Seven people have been arrested and convicted, and two are still on the run, the Austrian police announced.
The gang from Serbia is attributed with 29 burglaries of shops in Vorarlberg - opticians, sports stores, and clothing stores, as well as three houses. In Lindau, Germany, the gang broke into two optician shops and one restaurant.
A comprehensive investigation by the police from Bregenz and Čačak led to the trail of the gang members, and a search of the apartment of two suspects was carried out in Serbia in the middle of last month. During the search, police found 15 new expensive frames and glasses that are part of the loot from burglaries in Dornbirn, Bludenz, and Lindau.
Police have issued a European arrest warrant for the two fugitives, while the other seven members have already been convicted.
