Željko Dolački Arrested: Former Head of Criminal Police Stole EUR 280,000 and 2 kg of Gold?

Željko Dolački, former head of the Organized Crime Service, has been arrested. Members of the Croatian Ministry of Interior searched his apartment this morning as part of an investigation into the theft of EUR 280,000 and two kilograms of gold from the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Heinzelova Street, reports the Patria News Agency.

"Police officers of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Police Directorate conducted a criminal investigation against a Croatian citizen (born 1969) due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of abuse of position and authority.

Investigating the case of the break-in into the official premises of the Zagreb Police Department in Heinzelova Street (from April 3 to 4, 2016), police officers determined through criminal investigation the existence of grounds for suspicion that the suspect is a police officer of the Zagreb Police Department.

As items temporarily confiscated during criminal investigations were available to him during his service, and which the suspect took and kept for himself, there is suspicion that he falsely reported the break-in and, by exploiting his position, gained significant financial benefit.

The suspect will be handed over to the detention supervisor, and due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of abuse of position and authority, the police will file a criminal complaint against him with the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime," the police statement reads.

The major robbery at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Heinzelova occurred on the night of April 3-4. Large quantities of gold and money were stolen from the premises of the organized crime service, specifically from Željko Dolački's office – as much as EUR 280,000 and two kilos of gold.
