Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide: BiH Prosecutor's Office must urgently protect war crimes witnesses

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The media has been buzzing for some time about the role of the current Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, in the genocide committed in July 1995 in Srebrenica.

Lieutenant Radovan Višković was a member of the Main Staff of the VRS and, along with 105 other members of the Main Staff of the VRS, played a role in committing genocide. Proving his responsibility falls exclusively under the jurisdiction of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, stated the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide in a press release.

"The BiH Prosecutor's Office must URGENTLY protect witnesses testifying before the BiH Court. The way the Director of the Republican Center for Research of War Crimes, Milorad Kojić, publicly announced that he would reveal the personal data of a protected witness is the most brutal attack on witnesses who must be protected. We call on the BiH Prosecutor's Office to finally initiate proceedings and determine who is responsible for publishing protected data. We also call on the BiH Prosecutor's Office to protect witnesses for whose safety they are responsible," the Association stated.

If those who reveal protected data are allowed to go unpunished this time as well, the consequences for future proceedings will be catastrophic.
