Victims' Associations: BiH Prosecutor's Office Has Never Prosecuted Attacks on Returnees, They Are Directly Responsible

(Patria) - The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the Association "Movement of Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa", in their reaction to the physical attack on returnees in Višegrad, state that this is yet another in a series of attacks on Bosniak returnees. 

"These days, another attack on returnees, Bosniaks in the RS entity, occurred. The Memišević couple was brutally beaten by unknown persons. We consider the BiH Prosecutor's Office responsible for this and all subsequent attacks on returnees, as it refuses to prosecute past murders and physical attacks on returnees, and also does not know or does not want to prosecute genocide deniers and other war crimes in BiH, which, with the wholehearted support of Milorad Dodik, has given perpetrators additional freedom to continue attacking returnees in the RS entity freely and without fear of bearing any responsibility.

We call on international officials in BiH, the UN, member states of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), the EU, and the OSCE to visit returnees instead of verbally condemning the attacks and to act in accordance with the UN action plan on the prevention of genocide from 2007. Attacks on returnees are part of the regime's policy in the RS, because how else to interpret that not a single murder, hundreds of physical attacks, thousands of verbal attacks on returnees, none have received a judicial epilogue, nor have the victims received any compensation for the damages suffered," the reaction states.
