Share of non-cash payments in Russia to exceed 90% by 2030

(Patria) - The share of non-cash payments in Russia will continue to grow and will exceed 90% by 2030, said Alla Bakina, Director of the National Payment System Department of the Bank of Russia, in an interview with TASS.

“It is clear that the share of non-cash payments will continue to grow. It is already very high, so achieving each additional percentage point requires significant effort. In the first nine months of 2025, the share of non-cash payments was 87.8%. These are huge numbers,” Bakina said.

“We have made a colossal leap in just ten years. I believe we will exceed 90% by 2030,” she said, adding that this share was less than 20% in the period 2013-2014.

The number of transactions using bank cards fell by 3% in the third quarter of 2025, while volumes decreased by 6%, Bakina added.

“It is already clear that the growth rate of card transactions is slowing down. Comparing data for the third quarter of this year and last year, the decline was 3% and 6% in terms of number and volume, respectively,” Bakina said.

“There will be enough room for all payment instruments because everyone has their own preferences,” she added.
