Murder of Police Officer Pivodić: Strict Sentences Give Hope for Efficient Judiciary

The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton has received a final verdict from the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, in the case against the accused Anel Ćemo, for the criminal offense of murder of police officer Muhidin Pivodić on December 31, 2012, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The accused Anel Ćemo was sentenced to a single long-term prison sentence of thirty-four (34) years.

- We hereby express satisfaction with the imposed sentence, and we believe that, given the circumstances and manner of execution of the criminal offense, as well as the brutality shown, the long-term prison sentence for the convicted Anel Ćemo is entirely appropriate. We believe that the investigative and judicial authorities, by imposing this verdict, have sent a clear message that perpetrators of such and similar criminal offenses will be most severely punished. Certainly, this is a fact that gives citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina hope that the efficient work of all competent authorities will ensure a safer future for our country - states the statement from the MUP KS.

We recall, police officer Pivodić was brutally killed while securing an Orthodox church in Reljevo, and Ćemo killed him out of revenge because police had previously revoked his driver's license.
