POLICE MURDER: How fugitive Macan unnoticedly arrived at the KS Prosecutor's Office

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – The KS Prosecutor's Office has still not issued an official statement to the public despite numerous media inquiries about Aleksandar Macan, the prime suspect for the murder of police officers Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović on October 26, 2018, who yesterday came accompanied by his lawyer Duško Tomić to the premises of the KS Prosecutor's Office and surrendered to the prosecuting attorneys.

From the press service of the KS Prosecutor's Office, we received confirmation this morning that Macan had surrendered and is in custody. All other activities were confirmed to the media by his lawyer Duško Tomić, although he also gave various statements, which further added confusion to the entire case. It is known that Macan was on the run, and his lawyer claims that he helped him return to Bosnia and Herzegovina, first enabling him to meet with his family, and then they came to the KS Prosecutor's Office. In this case, there are many unanswered questions, the key one being how Macan crossed the border or borders of countries if an international red notice had been issued for him. And why did Macan not surrender to SIPA instead of the KS Prosecutor's Office?

Only after Macan surrendered at the KS Prosecutor's Office was the State Investigation and Protection Agency informed, whose police officers came to the premises of the KS Prosecutor's Office and deprived him of his liberty.

„Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) yesterday (December 23, 2021), in continuation of work on the case related to detecting the perpetrators of the criminal offense of murder of police officers of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton in October 2018, deprived one person of liberty. The person for whom NCB Interpol Sarajevo had issued an international red notice came to the premises of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, after which SIPA police officers deprived him of liberty. The person deprived of liberty was subjected to criminal processing and handed over to the prosecuting attorney of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton,“ stated SIPA.

Macan's interrogation continued today, and he was led out through another exit of the KS Prosecutor's Office, thereby depriving the media of photographs and video recordings of the arrested Macan.

The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, upon the proposal of the KS Prosecutor's Office on November 16, ordered detention for the suspect Macan, when an order for issuing an international warrant was also issued. He remains in custody. 

Although on November 5, the Police Administration of the MUP KS submitted a supplementary report to the KS Prosecutor's Office, when Police Commissioner Nusret Selimović stated that the case was "resolved from a police perspective," the KS Prosecutor's Office called on all institutions to refrain from disclosing information in the interest of the investigation. 

A few days later, the KS Prosecutor's Office confirmed that all further investigative activities and evidence collection in the case of the murder of two police officers, Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović, in October 2018, would be undertaken by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).

„Although the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) has been undertaking actions in the case since the commission of the criminal offense of murder of police officers of the MUP KS, by order of the KS Prosecutor's Office dated November 12, 2021, SIPA was instructed to continue further investigative activities aimed at discovering co-perpetrators of the murder and collecting evidence,“ said Azra Bavčić, spokesperson for the KS Prosecutor's Office, on November 17. 

The case of the murder of the two police officers has not been resolved for more than three years. Besides Macan, several other persons are suspected of being connected to the murder of the police officers.
