(Patria) – Ministers of Energy of the United Arab Emirates and Israel discussed possible cooperation and investment potential via video format on Wednesday, including the export of natural gas to Europe.
Israel and the UAE signed an agreement on September 15, marking the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which Israeli Minister Yuval Steinitz called a 'historic opportunity' for the development of energy in the region.
- We discussed cooperation regarding the development of a market for the export of natural gas to Europe, as well as other projects, said Steinitz, who also proposed that the UAE join the Egypt-based energy forum promoting gas exports from the Eastern Mediterranean.
Egypt, Israel, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and Jordan signed a charter on Tuesday formally establishing the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF).
This group brings together regional rivals of Turkey, which has been in dispute with Greece and Cyprus over drilling rights in the region.
The Ministers of Energy of Israel and the UAE also discussed investments in oil, gas, and green energy.
