Unique Giraffe Born at Zoo

(Patria) - Visitors to the zoo in Tennessee have the opportunity to witness a truly extraordinary sight.

Namely, a baby giraffe was recently born that is unique because it is - uniformly colored.

A name is currently being sought for this special animal, and it will receive one of these four: Kipekee (Unique), Forayali (Unusual), Sjakiri (Most Beautiful), or Jamella (Special Beauty).

The female was born on July 31st and was brown in color. Employees of Brights ZOO immediately realized she had no spots like all other giraffes.

She didn't look like her mother, who is quite normal. The mother, however, didn't see anything different in her baby, so she didn't reject her but is diligently taking care of her.

The zoo believes the baby giraffe is unique because it is a very rare case for them to be born without their well-known color patterns, which serve as camouflage.

However, that is not their only function - beneath the spots are blood vessels that allow the giraffe to release heat in the center of each spot, thus enabling them to regulate their body temperature, reports Jutarnji list.

Every giraffe, except for this one from Tennessee, has a unique spot pattern, which scientists believe is inherited from the mother.

- The global attention our giraffe has attracted has allowed us to talk more about the need to protect these animals.

The wild population is in danger, as 40 percent of these animals have disappeared in the wild in the last 30 years - says zoo founder Tony Bright, writes The Guardian.

The reduction in numbers is due to the ruthless killing of these animals, as well as the destruction of their habitats.
