One of the most modern centers for supporting persons with disabilities in BiH, Sumero, will be opened on Tuesday, at Rašida Bešlije street in Vogošća, writes NAP.
Sumero is an educational center for persons with intellectual disabilities, where experts will educate the center's users for a more independent life. The construction of the center cost more than 600,000 KM. Some of the best experts in BiH will work with the clients.
Persons with intellectual disabilities will not permanently reside in Sumero. Users will receive the necessary training on how to use household appliances, how to eat independently, and how to perform other basic tasks.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, traditional care for persons with intellectual disabilities, in asylum-type institutions, still prevails. Such institutions often cannot meet the basic needs of their residents. There are six institutions in BiH that house around 2,000 people, including more than 100 minor children. Ombudsmen for Human Rights established in 2009 that such institutions are most often overcrowded, which makes it difficult for therapists to work, writes NAP.
