Mass grave discovered in Višegrad, terrain mined and difficult

(Patria) - A mass grave has been found in the village of Gradina near Višegrad, said Emza Fazlić, spokesperson for the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Checks are still being carried out. But, the first skeletal remains have been found on site," said Fazlić.

It cannot yet be said with certainty whether it is a primary or secondary mass grave, but it is assumed that it contains the bodies of people killed in Višegrad in 1992 and Srebrenica in 1995.

The terrain is extremely difficult and everything is mined, so the excavation will be challenging.

"It is rocky terrain, and it is assumed that mines were placed over the bodies of the victims. Excavations will continue in the coming days. The exhumation is being led by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH on the order of the Court of BiH," added Fazlić.

The Institute received information about the location of the grave from a person who allegedly did not participate in the crimes, but in the burial of bodies, and is a protected witness.
