Operation 'Kum' underway in several BiH cities: Police conducting searches and arresting suspects

(Patria) - Police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, acting under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, are implementing an operation codenamed "Kum".

Searches are underway at facilities used by the suspects in the municipalities of Centar, Novo Sarajevo, Novi Grad and Vogošća.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska, searches are being conducted at several locations in that entity.

The activities are being carried out within the case codenamed "Kum" with evidence from the Sky and Anom applications, due to suspicion of committing criminal acts of organized crime, related to the illegal trafficking of narcotics and weapons.

The activities are being conducted with the support of the Intelligence and Security Agency of BiH, the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton stated.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH also issued a statement, noting that within the case codenamed "Kum", police officers of the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska and the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Sky team of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, are conducting searches of facilities at several locations in Foča, Sarajevo and other cities, as well as arrests of suspects.

The investigation in the case also relates to corruption-related criminal acts, as one of the suspects is an active police officer of the Border Police of BiH, who is charged with, for unlawful material gain, falsely certifying documentation for the alleged border crossing for members of a criminal organization, in order to provide them with an alibi for the time of the commission of criminal acts.

The suspects are under investigation and are charged with organized crime, related to international smuggling and distribution of larger quantities of narcotics on the illegal drug market.
