(Patria) - In Serbia, 16 people suspected of associating to commit serious crimes, including kidnappings and murders, have been arrested and detained, announced the prosecutor for organized crime, Mladen Nenadić.
Nenadić stated that the arrests were carried out after several months of joint work by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, several organizational units of the Ministry of Interior, and the Security Information Agency (BIA).
He emphasized that the operation was conducted yesterday and during the night with the aim of preserving Serbia's security and relates to shedding light on the most serious crimes against life and body, RTS reported.
A detention order has been issued for the 16 individuals, and they will be brought before the prosecutor for organized crime. The public will be informed in a timely manner about the details of the proceedings.
Searches are underway at 30 locations.
