Building where new Iranian supreme leader is chosen heavily damaged in airstrikes

(Patria) - The building of the institution for the selection of the new supreme leader of Iran, the successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was killed last Saturday, was attacked today in Israeli-American airstrikes, Iranian media reported.

According to the Tasnim news agency, "American-Zionist criminals attacked the Assembly of Experts building in Qom", which is responsible for appointing, supervising, and potentially dismissing the supreme leader.

Qom is a holy city 150 kilometers south of Tehran. Local media are sharing photos of the heavily damaged building. It is not yet known if anyone was in the building at the time of the attack or if there were any casualties.

The main headquarters of the Assembly of Experts in Tehran was already targeted by airstrikes yesterday, according to Tasnim.

Iran officially began the transition process on Sunday following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli-American attack on Saturday, after 36 years in power.
