Everything is up in the air in Ukraine and anything is possible

If troops were sent  outside of Crimea, into the territory of Ukraine and its eastern provinces, it would be very dangerous – says Neven Kazazović, foreign policy analyst for the BH news agency Patria. He commented on the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said they must protect their people in Crimea, however, Putin also mentioned the eastern provinces of Ukraine where Ukrainians live predominantly. He adds that the Ukrainian leadership is also careful not to provoke any unwanted reaction from Russia.

The Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which is an autonomous republic within Ukraine, has become the epicenter of the Ukrainian crisis after the opposition formed a new government in Kyiv. A convoy of several hundred Russian troops headed towards Simferopol, the capital of Crimea. Because of this, Ukraine accused Russia of "military invasion and occupation".

- For now, the situation is confusing, that's one thing, and the other is that there is a kind of pre-war state, and whether war will break out is hard to say. And if war does break out, the question is where it would be fought – states Kazazović.

What proportions a possible armed conflict would take, Kazazović tells NAP:

- The nature of war is that it spreads easily, starts quickly, but ends with difficulty. Everything is up in the air and anything is possible – emphasizes Kazazović.

Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stated that Ukraine's airspace is now closed to "all non-civilian aircraft".
