(Patria) - Spain recorded its hottest January since 1961, when records began, the country's Ministry for Environmental Protection announced.
The average temperature last month reached 8.4 degrees Celsius, which is 0.4 degrees above the previous record set in 2016, Reuters reports.
The Ministry stated that the weather was "extremely warm" in the south and center of the Iberian Peninsula, as well as on the subtropical Canary Islands.
Dry and sunny weather negatively impacted the long-term drought in the regions of Catalonia and Andalusia.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service announced earlier that last year was the hottest in the planet's history.
