(Patria) - By order of the duty prosecutor of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of human trafficking in connection with the exploitation of children for the purpose of forced begging.
After being handed over to the prosecutor and questioned, a one-month detention was proposed to the Sarajevo Cantonal Court due to the danger that they might influence witnesses, conceal evidence, and repeat the criminal offense if released.
They are suspected of having, in the past period, using physical force and threats, forced two minor children to beg in order to gain unlawful property benefits.
The children were transported to different locations for a longer period, where they had to beg and collect money, with the obligation to hand over at least 50 KM daily. In cases where they did not collect the required amount, they were physically punished.
The collected money was handed over to the suspects, who shared it among themselves.
