Sarajevo hosts rally in support of Palestine

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - More than a hundred citizens and representatives of numerous associations gathered today in Sarajevo for peaceful protests against the decision of the President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

Protesters gathered after noon in front of Sebilj in Baščaršija and expressed their disagreement with the US President's decision with a peaceful rally.

Carrying Palestinian flags and banners, the attendees sent a message that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine and expressed support for the Palestinian people with the message that "Intifada is self-defense".

The protest gathering was organized by the Association of "Bosnian-Palestinian Friendship", the Association of "Palestinian Community in BiH", "Egyptian Union in Bosnia", the Association "AKOS", and the Association "Young Muslims".

"Today we gathered in Sarajevo, which everyone calls the European Jerusalem, to send a unified message for the eternal Palestinian capital Jerusalem, that Palestinians are not left alone. With us are honorable, brave people who support justice and peace in the world," said Majed Maarouf, former ambassador of Palestine to BiH and current president of the Association "Palestinian Community in BiH", N1 reports.

On December 6, US President Trump made a decision recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and announced the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Following this decision, there were protests and objections in numerous countries.

In the declaration after the Summit of Islamic Countries held a few days ago in Istanbul, it was stated that in case of inaction by the UNSC (regarding Jerusalem), they are ready to discuss it before the UN General Assembly.
