In 2015, the number of traffic accidents in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina increased compared to 2014, and the number of fatalities also increased, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
In 2015, 185 people were killed in traffic accidents, compared to 161 in 2014. In the period January-December 2015, 28,978 traffic accidents occurred, with the highest number in the Sarajevo Canton, as many as 11,475.
According to data from the Federal Police Administration, of the 185 fatalities, 101 were drivers, 42 passengers, and 42 pedestrians. In the accidents, 7,246 people were injured, of which the largest number were drivers, 3,685.
According to an age analysis, the highest number of fatalities was in the age group 18 to 23 (26), 23 to 30 (16), 30 to 40 (17), 40 to 50 (12), 50 to 60 (18), and 60 and over (12).
The two main causes of traffic accidents are inappropriate speed and drunk driving.
Incidentally, considering the condition of roads in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the fact that in 2015 nearly 26,000 defective vehicles were recorded during technical inspections, of which more than half had faulty brakes, there is justified concern that this statistic could worsen.
