Ten people, including two Spanish police officers, were killed in a suicide attack by the Taliban on a residence next to the Spanish embassy in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, the Spanish government announced, reports the Patria News Agency.
The Taliban attacked the residence, which housed American soldiers, on Friday at 6 PM local time. This location was previously attacked in 2009, but there were no casualties then. The building is located directly next to the Spanish embassy, and nearby are the military bases and embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Iraq, and China.
Two Spanish police officers died in the attack. In the last 14 years, 100 Spaniards have died in Afghanistan since Spain joined the NATO mission to stabilize the country, which the Taliban considers an occupation.
After the mission ended a month and a half ago, a contingent of 21 Spanish soldiers is still stationed there, writes Index.
