In the past month, the public in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been shocked by brutal murders in which three young people lost their lives, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
The first case occurred on February 8th in Sarajevo, when a young man, Dženan Memić (22), was attacked while walking with his girlfriend on Velika aleja in Ilidža. He died on February 15th at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo from his injuries. To this day, this case remains unsolved, but both his family and friends claim it was a murder. The motives for the attack and murder of this young man are still a mystery, and the Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton have not yet released details and circumstances under which the young man's death occurred.
The second case of brutal torture and murder of a young woman, Arnela Đogić (24) from Olovo, shocked the public. The disappearance of the young woman was reported at the end of February, and she was last seen alive on February 27th, 2016. The investigation determined that the two attackers, Avdija Selimović (26) and Muriz Brkić (26), first tortured the unfortunate young woman and then threw her body off a cliff. Her body was found on March 2nd in the canyon of the Stupčanica River. The brutality and sadism of her killers went so far that they robbed her and then treated patrons of a catering establishment with that money. To make the case even worse, to cover up the traces of their crime, one of the attackers posted an appeal for her finding on social media. Both confessed to the crime.
The third case, which occurred in Zenica on March 7th, further shocked the already disturbed public in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A young man, Senid Kulačić, was stabbed in the leg after a verbal argument just before his 28th birthday, after which he quickly bled to death. Two people have been arrested, while two others, one of whom is the perpetrator of the criminal act, are still being sought, confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Zenica-Doboj Canton.
Psychologist Ismet Dizdarević commented on these acts and their perpetrators for the news agency Patria, stating that the reasons are most often outside the personality of these young people.
- The tendency towards violence and the source of aggression in young people who commit these crimes, and with a sadistic component, can be acquired or formed. Society itself is now conducive to such things happening because society has lost its sense of values that were once cherished. Upbringing has completely failed, learning processes in schools and universities are reduced to the transfer of knowledge. You can always find a component that they had a series of problems during their life development, whether it was the influence of parents, peers, or dissatisfaction with life, leading them to try to affirm themselves in a negative way that has made the environment shocking – says Dizdarević.
He also stated that socialization in prisons is an important factor, which is not at an adequate level, given that statistics show that 70 percent of young people commit new criminal offenses after leaving prison.
- It is important for the punishment to be confirmed immediately, not to be delayed – emphasized Dizdarević.
