(Patria) - Bosnian citizen Sead Miljković was arrested in the US based on an Interpol warrant issued in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The news about the arrest of the Bosnian citizen was published by the American Forbes. They state in the article that the Bosnian man named Miljković lived in the US under the false name Sead Đukić. According to unofficial information from Istraga, there is a high probability that this is a former member of Fikret Abdić's army who is suspected of war crimes in the area of Velika Kladuša, reports Istraga.

“For the last 24 years, Sead Đukić has lived a quiet life with his wife and daughter, residing in a tiny red-brick cottage, hidden from the road by two plane trees in front and a hill on the side. The only view is to the other side, where an American flag has proudly flown for years. Every patriotic neighbor might not have been concerned about Đukić. At least not until recently. Earlier this month, immigration officers raided his home and claimed his birth name was not Đukić, but Miljković. The indictment and search warrant, unsealed last week, state that he was on an Interpol red notice and that authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina are looking for him for allegedly committing war crimes during the war in BiH,” Forbes reported.

Although he may have been able to change his name, he could not change his face or fingerprints, Forbes continues, citing a report from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which used facial recognition software and fingerprints to “match US records for Đukić with Bosnia and Herzegovina files for Miljković.”

Neither the US police nor Forbes provided further information about his alleged war crimes. He was arrested last week, just as he was about to travel to Cancun with his wife; Miljković (or Đukić) posted a $30,000 bail while awaiting further court proceedings.

“He now faces a charge of making false statements when applying for a US passport. It is unclear whether he will also be tried for war crimes. Neither the defendant's lawyer nor the DHS have commented. Interpol also did not respond to a request for comment,” Forbes reported.

Istraga.ba contacted the Una-Sana Canton Prosecutor's Office. As working hours had ended, they could not confirm whether the Bosnian citizen Miljković was arrested based on a warrant issued by that prosecutor's office. However, they confirmed that there is a person named Miljković in their system for whom an Interpol warrant has been issued due to war crimes in Velika Kladuša. They also confirmed that the Miljković they are looking for lives in the US. However, the Una-Sana Canton Prosecutor's Office should provide more precise information on Wednesday morning, after officially verifying with Interpol.
