(Patria) - A Russian Su-24 military plane crashed on its return to the airfield in Russia's Belgorod region, and the pilot was killed, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today.
"An Su-25 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed while returning to its airfield in the Belgorod region after completing a combat mission. The pilot was killed," the Ministry's statement said.
It was added that preliminary data indicates that the most likely cause of the accident was a technical malfunction.
The plane crashed in an uninhabited area, the Ministry noted, as reported by Nova.rs.
The Belgorod region is located on the border with Ukraine.
