(Patria) - At least 22 people were killed and at least 50 injured in a mass shooting that occurred in the city of Lewiston in the US state of Maine. The shooter is on the run and numerous services are searching for him.
Maine is located in the northeastern United States, near New York, and the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office has released a photo of the suspect carrying a rifle.
The shooting occurred at three different locations, including a restaurant.
The suspect is reportedly 40-year-old Robert Card, as police have identified him as a "person of interest" and stated he should be considered "armed and dangerous".
Maine police report that the suspect in the mass shooting is a firearms instructor who has recently been treated at a mental health facility. He was trained by the military and was recently admitted to a facility to receive adequate help for mental health issues.
A police bulletin states that Card reported hearing "voices" and threatened to shoot up a military training base in Saco, Maine.
Residents of the city, the second largest in the state of Maine, have been told to shelter in place.
The White House has said that President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and will continue to monitor developments.
