One dead, two missing in floods in Canada

(Patria) - Vancouver's port, Canada's largest, announced that all rail access to the port is flooded, while one person died and two are missing in landslides east of the port.

"All rail traffic to and from the Port of Vancouver has been suspended due to flooding in the interior of British Columbia," said port spokesperson Matti Polychronis.

At least one person died in a landslide on Highway 99 near Pemberton, about 160 kilometers northeast of Vancouver.

Rescue teams are searching the area for survivors and the injured.

Cargo worth $440 million, from cars to essential supplies, passes through the Port of Vancouver every year.

Due to floods caused by two days of heavy rain, the transport of wheat and rapeseed from Canada, one of the world's largest grain exporters, has been temporarily interrupted.

Enbridge Inc. also shut down part of its pipeline as a precaution due to flooding, and the Trans Mountain pipeline, which transports 300,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta to the Pacific coast, was closed due to storms.

Teck Resources Limited also announced that the delivery of copper and coal to export terminals has been disrupted due to flooding.

South of British Columbia, in the US state of Washington, residents were evacuated due to heavy rains, and power supply was cut off to 150,000 households.

In some parts of British Columbia, 20 cm of rain fell on Sunday, which is the usual amount for a month.
