(Patria) - UNICEF yesterday announced that more than 13,000 children have been killed in the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip so far, and that many are suffering from severe malnutrition.
- Thousands are injured and we can't even determine where they are. They could be under the rubble. We haven't seen such mortality rates among children in almost any other conflict in the world.
I've been in wards with children suffering from severe anemia due to malnutrition, the entire ward is absolutely quiet. Because the children, the newborns, don't even have the strength to cry - said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell on CBS News' "Face the Nation".
She stated that there are "very big bureaucratic challenges" in delivering aid to the Gaza Strip by trucks.
Every third child under the age of two in the northern Gaza Strip is now acutely malnourished and facing starvation, the main UN agency in the Gaza Strip (UNRWA) warned on Saturday.
