Senate Formed at General Hospital - Academic Advisory Body

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Prominent doctors, top experts in their fields, with many years of experience at the General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" and the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, as well as several doctors from the private sector, formed the Senate of the General Hospital at today's session - the highest academic advisory body of this institution.

The Senate consists of academics, professors, senior physicians, and doctors from various medical fields, and as agreed, they will strive to help and contribute to the development of the healthcare system and the General Hospital with their knowledge. Among the 20 senators present at the constituent meeting, Prim. dr. Milena Lovre-Bilbija, a specialist anesthesiologist who retired after 18 years at the Clinical Center and 22 years at the General Hospital, was unanimously elected president.

"I have worked with great integrity my entire life, and it is a great honor for me to be invited and to be entrusted with presiding over the Senate, which comprises extraordinary people and experts. I am sure we will do our best and be constructive in our work," said Dr. Lovre-Bilbija.

The idea for forming the Senate originated from Prof. dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, acting director of the General Hospital, which was wholeheartedly supported by his colleagues, from whom he requested assistance with their rich experience and knowledge for our healthcare, especially during the current coronavirus pandemic. The Senate will make conclusions and opinions on current issues in the healthcare system, initiate proposals, point out potential anomalies in healthcare, and suggest solutions. As a professional and advisory body within the scope of the Institution's primary responsibilities, specifically in the professional-medical and ethical aspects of operation in general and in specific cases, the Senate will provide proposals and suggestions regarding professional issues concerning patient treatment at the Hospital, completely free of charge. The Senate of the Public Institution General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" Sarajevo will organize its work through working bodies for specific areas of medicine.

Thus, long-time friends and acquaintances, who built the healthcare system in our country during the most difficult war and post-war days, gladly responded to the call of Prof. dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, acting director of the General Hospital, to help chart the best path for the development of this healthcare institution for the benefit of all patients with their knowledge and competencies. Their enthusiasm, desire, and willingness to participate in new processes and to transfer their long-acquired knowledge and skills are encouraging and promising.

The General Hospital extends its warmest thanks to the esteemed "Senators" for showing social responsibility through this act and for their dedication to working for the benefit of all patients and society as a whole.
