Four Israeli soldiers killed, over sixty wounded in Hezbollah drone attack

(Patria) - Four soldiers were killed and more than sixty were wounded in a drone attack on a military base in northern Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced. The army added that seven soldiers were seriously wounded in the attack on the base "near Binyamina" - a town about 33 km south of Haifa.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said targeted a training camp of the IDF's Golani Brigade, located between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The armed group's media office said the attack was a response to Israeli strikes on Thursday in southern Lebanon and Beirut. The group said it targeted the camp in northern Israel using a "swarm
of drones."

Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service said 61 people were wounded in the attack, including three in critical condition. It added that 37 of them were transported to eight regional hospitals, either by ambulance or helicopter, the BBC reported late last night.

Before the IDF confirmed the deaths, MDA said that in addition to the three critically wounded, 18 victims were in moderate condition, 31 sustained minor injuries, and nine people "are suffering from anxiety."

The reason for the discrepancy in the number of critical injuries between MDA and the IDF is unclear, the BBC concludes. Israeli censorship rules initially prevented the media from reporting what exactly was targeted, before the IDF confirmed it was the Binyamina base. Some Israeli media reported that the base was hit by a drone launched from Lebanon, which apparently did not trigger early warning alarms.

Details are still scarce, but it appears that many of the wounded were in a common dining hall.
