Concern grows in Congress, CNN sources claim Trump is closer to striking Iran

(Patria) - United States President Donald Trump is increasingly close to deciding to use the US military to attack Iranian nuclear facilities, two senior officials familiar with internal administration discussions told CNN. According to sources, Trump is losing confidence in the possibility of a diplomatic solution to reduce tensions between Iran and Israel. Although he still formally leaves room for negotiations, he clearly states that his goal is not a "truce", but an "end, a real end – not some temporary pause".

"Honestly, I'm not really in the mood to negotiate with Iran," Trump told reporters on Air Force One, returning from the G7 summit in Canada.

In the shadow of these increasingly open warlike statements, concern is growing in the US Congress about the possibility that the president will make a unilateral decision for military action without the prior consent of the legislative branch. A group of US congressmen, led by Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna, have submitted a resolution to the House of Representatives calling for the immediate withdrawal of US armed forces from all undeclared war activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The resolution, submitted as "privileged," must be immediately considered by the House of Representatives, and then by the Senate, according to the rules. It calls on the president to, in accordance with Section 5(c) of the War Powers Act, suspend any use of US forces against Iran, unless Congress makes a formal declaration of war or passes specific statutory authorization.

"This is not our war. Even if it were, the Constitution dictates that Congress decides on such matters," Massie said via the X social network.

The resolution does not apply to intelligence and counter-intelligence activities, nor does it prohibit the US's right to respond in case of an immediate threat. Nevertheless, political analysts in Washington emphasize that this initiative is a clear attempt to stop the president from intending to drag the US into a potentially devastating war with Iran – without the approval of the people, expressed through their elected representatives in Congress.
