(Patria) - A new round of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza is scheduled to be held this weekend in Cairo. The US delegation, led by CIA Director Bill Burns, will also participate, reports Reuters.
White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby said that President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a phone call on Thursday to give more authority to his negotiators in Cairo so that an agreement could be reached as soon as possible.
According to the latest proposal, Israel and Hamas would agree to a six-week truce in exchange for the release of sick, elderly, and wounded hostages.
- Let's reach an agreement so we can establish a ceasefire for several weeks. That makes it easier to fulfill these obligations to increase humanitarian aid - Kirby told reporters.
