Two Croatian police officers indicted for informing criminals from BiH, Serbia, and Montenegro about 'wanted lists' for money and enabling their stay in the EU

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Two Croatian border police officers have been indicted on suspicion of obtaining information about wanted persons for money from interested parties in BiH, Serbia, and Montenegro, and enabling their illegal stay in the EU, it was announced today in Zagreb.

The Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) announced that the indictment, filed at the County Court in Zagreb, includes eight people, including three from Serbia, BiH, and Montenegro.

They are accused of forming a criminal association, accepting and giving bribes, abuse of position and authority, and aiding and abetting abuses. The irregularities occurred from mid-2019 to June 2022.

The first accused connected two police officers from the Macelj border police, as well as several other individuals, including a currently unidentified police officer from Slovenia, in a joint operation in Croatia and Slovenia.

For money, they obtained information about wanted lists and other police measures from national databases of the Ministry of Interior, the Schengen Information System, and Interpol for interested parties, mainly from Serbia, BiH, and Montenegro. This enabled them to stay in the Schengen area by registering fictitious border crossings. USKOK's statement states that the first accused profited at least 5,379.76 euros, the second accused 14,970 euros, and the third accused at least 8,370 euros.
