At least 21 dead in explosion at Chinese power plant

At least 21 people were killed and five injured in an explosion that occurred on Thursday at a power plant in the city of Dangyang in central China, reported the Xinhua news agency, citing information from local authorities, reports the Patria News Agency.  

The explosion occurred due to the rupture of a pressurized steam pipe at the power plant in the industrial city of Dangyang in the central Hubei province. No further details about the accident have been released yet.

Similar incidents are relatively common in China's industrial areas and repeatedly raise questions about safety standards in the country.

Following the explosion at a chemical warehouse in August 2015 in the port of Tianjin in the north of the country, which killed 165 people, Chinese authorities promised to improve industrial safety standards, writes Index.
