44 killed, 47 wounded in two explosions in Nigeria

At least 44 people were killed on Sunday evening in two explosions near a shopping center and a mosque in Jos, central Nigeria, the Nigerian emergency agency reported on Monday, according to the Patria news agency.

-For now we have 44 dead and 47 wounded from both explosion sites, said Muhamed Abdulsala from the National Emergency Management Agency.

The police spokesman for Plateau state, whose capital is Jos, Emmanuel Abuh, earlier mentioned a figure of 18 dead, without specifying the circumstances of the explosions. The explosions followed several bloody attacks in the northeast of the country attributed to the Islamist group Boko Haram.

The first explosion occurred on Sunday in a shopping center located near a bus station and the University of Jos. The second occurred four minutes later, near a very frequented mosque. No one has claimed responsibility for either attack.
