On the occasion of Passover, one of the greatest Jewish holidays marking the liberation of Jews from Egyptian slavery, a reception was held on April 10, 2015, in the Municipality of Centar for representatives of the Jewish Community in Sarajevo, reports the Patria News Agency.
Congratulating the guests on the holiday, which Jews in these areas have been celebrating together with their neighbors for half a century, the Chairman of the Centar Municipal Council, Nedžad Ajnadžić, emphasized that the Centar Municipal Council, in order to improve cooperation with religious communities and with the desire to facilitate their social activities, plans to adopt amendments to the decision to enable religious communities to rent municipal business premises under favorable conditions.
Jakob Finci, President of the Jewish Community of BiH, thanked them for their good wishes and congratulations, emphasizing that this year marks the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish Municipality in Sarajevo.
- According to our data, about 700 Jews live in Sarajevo today, and last year ten babies were born into this community, which speaks of their faith in survival in these areas. We are proud of the fact that throughout our time in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo, no member of our community has wronged this city and country in any way. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a rare example in the world where there is no antisemitism – said Jakob Finci, it was announced from the Municipality of Centar.
