A man suspected of being dangerous with explosives was arrested early this morning in central Brussels, prompting the evacuation of a shopping centre, local media report.
Citizens reported seeing a man behaving suspiciously near the City 2 centre in the heart of Brussels.
Following the report, police cordoned off the entire area, as well as the nearby boulevard and metro station.
The man was arrested at the scene, local media report. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the detained person did not possess explosives.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel told RTL television that the „situation is very serious“ and called an emergency government meeting.
Belgium is still recovering from the ISIL suicide attacks on Brussels airport and the city's metro on 22 March, in which 32 people were killed and hundreds wounded.
