NATO-Russia Council meeting in Brussels, Stoltenberg rejected the possibility of the Alliance ceasing to expand

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A NATO-Russia Council meeting, convened by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, will be held in Brussels today.

Stoltenberg previously stated that a common path to progress could be found with Russia, and that Moscow's concerns could be addressed, adding that the risk of conflict still exists.

He denied the option of the Alliance not expanding to Eastern Europe, thereby rejecting Russian President Vladimir Putin's main demand for de-escalating tensions with Ukraine, agencies reported.

Putin denied that there was a plan for an invasion, but warned of possible military action if the US and NATO ignore Moscow's demand for security guarantees, stating that NATO expansion is a threat to Russian borders.
